Thrashing of Sikh youth in Amritsar : 17 accused identified, 8 arrested

Amritsar, Punjab (March 16, 2014): According to information the Amritsar police have arrested eight persons in connection with yesterday’s incident in which a Sikh youth was badly beaten up by people of a certain community who were holding some demonstration near Hall Bazaar at Amritsar.

Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh reportedly told media-persons that a case under various sections of IPC, including an attempt to murder, was registered against the accused.

He said that police, so far, have succeeded to arrest eight accused and will shortly arrest rest others, adding that 17 accused have been identified who were involved in thrashing the Sikh youth.

Akal Takaht Jathedar Gyani Gurbachan Singh has demanded stern action against the culprits.

Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh has sought punishment against those who thrashed the youth. He demanded action against police officials who “were present on the spot” and remained mute spectator.
