Amritsar, Punjab (January 06, 2014): An annual ardas samagam marked memory of Shaheed Satwant Singh and Shaeed Kehar Singh at Akal Takht Sahib, in Darbar Sahib complex at Amritsar. The samagam was attended by family members of Shaheed Satwant Singh besides Sikh sangat and representatives of various Sikh organizations.
As per information Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh honoured Bapu Tarlok Singh, father of Shaheed Satwant Singh.
It is learnt that various Sikh organization including Dal Khalsa and Akali Dal Panch Pardhani asked Akal Takht Jathedar to ensure a memorial for Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh, Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh inside the Darbar Sahib complex to mark the memory of their martyrdom. They said that the memorial may be in any form while adding that such a memorial was must.
Today’s samagam was also attended by S. Simran Jeet Singh Mann (Shiromani Akali Dal Mann), Baba Baljeet Singh Daduwal (Panthic Sewa Lehar), Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema (Akali Dal Panch Pardhani), S. Baldev Singh Sirsa, S. Kanwar Pal Singh (Dal Khalsa), Bhai Mohkam Singh and leaders Sikh Youth of Punjab.

It may be recalled that Bhai Beant Singh along with Bhai Satwant Singh had killed Indira Gandhi, the then Indian prime minister, on 31 October 1984 in the aftermath of brutal army attack at Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) and other Sikh Gurdwaras in June 1984.
Bhai Beant Singh was martyred by other bodyguards of Indira Gandhi. He was recognized as a national Sikh martyr by Akal Takht Sahib. Bhai Satwant Singh was also wounded on 31 Oct 1984 but he had survived the gun shot injuries. He was sentenced to death along with Bhai Kehar Singh.
After their martyrdom on 6 January 1989 Bhai Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh were also declared as national Sikh martyrs. Their martyrdom day is annually observed at Akal Takht Sahib.
