Sangrur: As per the media reports the truckers from district Sangrur here on Wednesday held a protest in front Sangrur and Barnala Deputy Commissioners’ offices against state government’s decision of scrapping the trucker’s union.
They raised slogans against the Punjab Government and announced to launch an indefinite protest if the government failed to take back its decision, said media sources.
“Lakhs of families are dependent on the transport business in the state. The government should have considered how we would earn our livelihood,” said Ranjit Singh a local trucker while protesting in front of DC office.
Furthermore, truckers from Faridkot, Jaitu, Kotkapura and Sadiq towns of the Faridkot district submitted a joint memorandum to the Faridkot SDM on Wednesday.
Categorically, criticising state government’s decision of disbanding all truck unions, the trucks claimed that the allegations of them harassing the commission agents and farmers were false.
Disbanding the truck unions would lead to chaos in the transportation and the shifting of wheat and paddy crops in the coming season, the truck operators purportedly stated in the memorandum, reports The Tribune (TT).
