Youths Recently Arrested by the Nawanshehr police

Defence council Advocate B. S. Riar maintained that the police was trying to frame the youth by making “high claims”. He said that the police story clearly shows that the police had nothing against the youth when they were arrested on April 02 and it has failed to make any recovery from them during 4 days long police remand. He said that there was no need for extending police remand for two more days and added that the court seem to have ignored the objections against extension of the police remand.

Meanwhile, according to the media reports, the police maintains that arrested youth, mainly teenagers, were ‘ISI agents” who were allegedly acting on the directions of some Deep Kaur of Malaysia.

According to the police they were arrested on April 2 on the basis of suspicion by a police party that was patrolling the area in wake of Bhagat Bandh call. The police say that the youth were carrying kerosene oil and a match box to commit arson. A case was registered against arrested youth vide FIR No. 26/2018 under sections 436 and 511 of Indian Penal Code.

Police said that the arrested youth was to put imprints of Khalistan and Referendum 2020 in the area.

Police Targeting Youth under the Name of Khalistan to create Fear Psychosis: SADA (Mann)

In a statement issued today, Shriomani Akali Dal Amritsar (Mann) president Simranjit Singh Mann criticised the police for ‘unduly targeting’ the Sikh youth under the name of Khalistan. He said that by targeting the Sikh youth under the name of Khalistan, the police was trying to create the atmosphere of fear and strike terror in the minds of people of Punjab. He said that the police was trying to erode the legitimacy of the demand of Khalistan.

S. Simranjit Singh Mann also criticised the organisers of the Referendum 2020 and alleged that the Sikh people were not being given proper information about the move the organisers. He expressed suspicion about the motives of the Referendum 2020 move.
