London (July 08, 2014): According to a written statement by the Sikh Federation UK, the Sikhs in UK have accused the Foreign Secretary of appeasing the Indian Government by announcing a statue in Parliament Square of Mahatma Gandhi who is a blatant racist and pedophile.
“Instead there should be a permanent monument recognising the huge contribution of Sikhs in the First World War”, the statement reads.
The Sikh Federation (UK) is dismayed William Hague, the Foreign Secretary, has today announced in India that a statue of Mahatma Gandhi is being constructed and will be erected in Parliament Square next year.
We have today written to the Culture Secretary, Sajid Javid (a copy of the letter is below) pointing out this was something we successfully opposed in 2008.
We have now pointed out other evidence from very reliable sources why it would be totally inappropriate to have a statue erected in Parliament Square of someone who is a blatant racist, a sexual weirdo or worse a child abuser and someone discriminating on the basis of the Hindu caste system, which is now outlawed in the UK.
Instead we think it would be far better given the First World War Centenary Commemorations if the UK Government officially recognised the huge sacrifice of Sikh soldiers in the First World War by having a much needed permanent monument in central London depicting the contribution of Sikhs who were referred to as the ‘Lions of the Great War’.
The announcement today suggests either the UK Government has been totally hoodwinked or more likely they are turning a blind eye to appease the Indian Government in turn for business. However, we hope they will reconsider when they look at the evidence presented and recognise the abhorrence of ordinary members of the British public who oppose racism, pedophilia and caste discrimination.
