Southall, UK: In recently held elections for the management of Southall Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Sher Group defeated Baaj group. New committee is set to take over management of one of the largest Gurdwaras of UK.

Led by Gurmail Singh Malhi, the Sher group has defeated incumbent Baaj group, with a margin of 606 votes. As many as 7125 votes were polled in the hotly contested elections, which were held on September 28.

Soon after the results, members of Sher group along with the supporters went to perform “ardas” (prayer) at Gurdwara Park Avenue.

The elections for Sri Singh Sabha Southall are significant as the decisions taken by the Gurdwara are believed to have a bearing on other Gurdwaras across UK and outside.

For most part of the last two decades, the Baaj faction, headed by Himmat Singh Sohi, a former kabaddi player, had been forming the management committee.

The Sher group headed by Gurmail Singh Malhi, earlier too had won elections in 2008 and looked after Gurdwara affairs till 2011.
