London: Just weeks before his meeting with Jagtar Singh Johal’s family in Dumbarton(Scotland) was going to take place UK foreign secretary Boris Johnson resigned from his position in the Government.
Jagtar Singh Johal’s family in UK struggled for 8 months to fix this meeting cum discussion with Boris to discuss the torture and act of harassment with Jagtar Singh in custody of the Indian police.
On 9th July Boris resigned following other reassignment of a Minister over the Brexit issue in United Kingdom. Jagtar’s Brother Gurpreet Singh Johal had been lobbying the Foreign Secretary for a meeting for some time since Jaggi arrested. This resignation has delayed any chance of talk with the official on Jagtar’s matter.
MP of west Dunbartonshire Martin Docherty-Hughes who is regularly raising Jagtar’s case in parliament also blasted Boris for showing such neglect and “little Interest” in this sensitive case.
Jagtar singh’s family is hopeful that the new Foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt will be more helpful than Boris Johnson.
The Free Jaggi Now Facebook page which is managed by campaigners stated in a post “,This is the second high profile resignation of an elected official who made comment on the case of Jaggi. Firstly, we seen Rory Stewart being reassigned after stating the UK Government would take “extreme action” over allegations of torture. Now, after agreeing to meet after over 8 months of detainment for Jaggi, the Foreign Secretary resigns.
