Unemployed youth tears his degrees while arguing with Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal

Ratta Khera, Mukatsar: An unemployed man accused Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal of providing government jobs to kin of his cronies and then tore off his educational certificates at Ratta Khera village of Muktsar district on Saturday. Ratta Khera resident Salwinder Singh, 33, argued for about 15 minutes with the CM and alleged that kin of Jathedars were given government jobs while others like him kept trying in vain.

Officials asking the youth to be calm

Salwinder said, “I have MA and B. Ed degrees, but I failed get any job. I have been trying to get a job but became the victim of circumstances and wrong policies of various governments.” He also asked CM Badal whether he indulged in favouritism and recommended jobs for kin of his associates to which Badal replied in negative. Salwinder then confronted him by saying, “Please do not tell a lie, I can identify about 50 persons whom you or your subordinates had provided jobs in the past few years. If you can not give us jobs, please arrange for arms licence so that we can join some security agency.”

The chief minister then directed the Muktsar deputy commissioner to look into Salwinder’s request for an arm licence. However, Salwinder kept on arguing with the CM. Some Akali workers tried to intervene, but Badal stopped them and the man left the place in a huff with some others.

When contacted, Muktsar DC Jaskaran said Salwinder wanted some job and spoke with the CM in a bitter tone. “The CM though made it clear that jobs could only be given following proper channel, but the youth kept arguing, which was not right.”
