New York: Indian film star Amitabh Bachchan has been summoned by a US court in an human rights violation case filed by a Sikh rights group named Sikhs for Justice.
The US district court in Los Angeles on Monday (Oct. 28) issued the summons on a complaint filed by New York-based Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) and two victims cum survivors of the Sikh Genocide 1984.
The victims Babu Singh Dukhiya is based in Delhi and Mohender Singh is based in California.
The court has directed Amitabh Bachchan to respond in 21 days after he is served with the summons.
Running into 35-pages, the complaint says that Amitabh Bachchan instigated people for violence, saying ‘blood for blood’ after the assassination of the then prime minister Indira Gandhi.
In the past several years, SFJ has unsuccessfully tried to drag several Indian leaders to US courts in the alleged human rights violations cases.
Amitabh Bachchan has been denying allegations of any role in the Sikh genocide, and in 2011 had even written a letter to Akal Takht taking a plea that his maternal grandparents were Sikhs.
