US Gurdwara Call for Concepts of June 1984 Ghallughara Memorial Design

Fremont, CA: In an initiative to honor the memory of the Sikh warriors who stood for the truth and honor of the Gurdhams against the might of repressive state during the June 1984 attack on Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) and other Gurdwaras across Punjab, Gurdwara Sahib Fremont has announced plans to build a memorial.

Notably, this year marks the 40th anniversary of the Teeja Ghallughara, also known as the 3rd Ghalughara, a pivotal moment in Sikh history.

The Gurdwara committee is inviting creative minds and artists to submit their concept designs for the memorial. Submissions are open until 15 October , with substantial cash prizes offered for the winning concepts. This initiative not only serves to commemorate the brave Sikh warriors who laid their lives for the Guru but also aims to educate future generations about the resilience and valor of the Sikh community.

“We want to create a lasting tribute that embodies the spirit and sacrifices of those who resisted oppression,” said a brief statement by the Gurdwara Sahib Fremont. “While many are eager to offer their creative ideas as an act of sewa, we are pleased to offer cash prizes to the winning designs as a token of appreciation for their efforts”, it reads.

The memorial is envisioned to be a place of reflection and remembrance, serving as a symbol of courage and resistance against injustice. The Gurdwara encourages participants from all backgrounds to contribute their unique perspectives and artistic interpretations to this important project.
