US: Lt. Brian Murphy & Officer Sam Lenda to receive congressional Badge of Bravery

Wisconsin, US (August 03, 2014): The Oak Creek Police Department and the City of Oak Creek has announced that one of the highest honors a law enforcement officer can receive will be presented to Lieutenant Brian Murphy (retired) and Officer Savan “Sam” Lenda for their roles in the tragic events of August 5, 2012.

Brian Murphy was injured during white-supremacist at Oak Creek Sikh Gurdwara Sahib in which 6 Sikhs were shot dead by a neo-Nazi.

On August 6, 2014, Lieutenant Murphy and Officer Lenda will be awarded the Congressional Badge of Bravery at a celebration scheduled to be held at 2:00pm at the Oak Creek Community Center, 8580 South Howell Avenue in Oak Creek. This event is free and open to the public.

In a statement provided by Chief of Police John Edwards, high praise is given not only for Lt. Murphy and Officer Lenda but all responding officers on August 5, 2012.

“Brian and Sam are very deserving of the Congressional Badge of Bravery. Their actions on August 5, 2012 exemplify courage and bravery and should be a model for all officers to follow. I am extremely proud of not only Brian and Sam, but all of the officers that responded on that day. They came together as a team and handled an extremely difficult situation.”
