USA: Sikhs remember victims of Oak Creek tragidy with 6K Charhdikala run

Oak Creek, Wis, USA (August 03, 2014): The memory of the six people killed in the Sikh Gurdwara Sahib in Oak Creek by a white supremacist remains strong even after two years. On Augusut 02 those victims the Oak Creek tragedy were honored by the people who knew them best. It’s part of a tribute that’s stretching over several days.

According to information nearly 400 people took part in 6KM Charhdikala walk. Besides the race/walk, members of the “Sikh Temple” Gurdwara Sahib also gave away six scholarships, each for one-thousand dollars to high schools students.

The Sikh Sangar observance to continue on Sunday (August 03) with tributes to the victims of the tragedy that had took place on August 06 2012.

On Tuesday, the actual anniversary of the shootings, there’s a remembrance ceremony at 8p.m.

On Wednesday, the Congressional Badge of Bravery will be awarded to retired Oak Creek police Lt. Brian Murphy — the first officer on the scene of the shooting, who was wounded about a dozen times by the shooter — and officer Sam Lenda. The ceremony will be held at the Oak Creek Community Center, according to a press release from the Oak Creek Police Department. The awards honor law enforcement officers who have risked their personal safety to carry out exceptional acts of bravery.
