“The liquor mafia has been sent packing and the mining mafia has been wiped out with e-auctions. Next, we will free the transport and cable businesses of cartels,” maintains Amarinder Singh in an interview with an English vernacular.

While vouching for the controversial minister Rana Gurjit Punjab CM said that the allegation against the minister are  “a creation of the media” not based on facts,  cancelling the mining contracts would not be in the interest of the state. “Unless there is concrete evidence to prove lack of probity, I see no reason to cancel the exercise and start afresh, causing a huge loss to the exchequer, he adds.

It is interesting to note that same state exchequer is suffering huge revenue loss due to  illegal plying of the private buses on the lucrative routes that has  obtained extended route permits at the interest of state transport department to which the chief minister Punjab Amarinder Singh has turn oblivion to.

Furthermore, while maintaining his claims he stated that “In fact, wee intend to further strengthen the system during the next auction on June 11. The bidder will have to bid between Rs 25,000-Rs 10 lakh at a time. Also, the earnest money deposit for the mines has been enhanced as per the reserve price of the mines,” reports The Tribune (TT).

To contain illegal mining, he said his government had appointed Additional DCs and SPs in each district as Nodal Officers and set up District Mineral Foundation under DCs and State Mineral Foundation under the Director, Mining. The mines would be manned by retired defence personnel.
