Punjab is facing a severe groundwater depletion crisis, which has raised significant concerns for agriculture and the environment. The Agriculture and Environment Awareness Centre has published a document compiling data from various reports by the Punjab State government, India’s Union government, and other official institutions. This data highlights the alarming rate at which Punjab’s groundwater levels are declining, threatening the region’s agricultural sustainability. In an exclusive interview, journalist Mandeep Singh spoke to Harbeer Kaur, director of the Centre, about the publication and its focus on the urgent need to address Punjab’s water crisis and protect its environmental future.
