Chandigarh: Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) party president Abhay Chautala on Friday said his party workers were ready to march towards Punjab on February 23 to dig the controversial Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal.

While addressing the media in a press conference Abhay Chautala claimed that INLD workers will assemble in the grain market at Ambala city on that day from where they would move and enter Punjab through shambhu barrier  to dig the canal.

When inquired about the state government’s permission to undertake the march, he in a dismissive manner said that the INLD did not need any permission to undertake this move.

“Nonetheless, we have sent a communication to the Ambala deputy commissioner about our march and it would be the duty of the district administration to make adequate arrangements to regulate traffic movement,” he further said.

In case of denial to INLD to undertake the march would only put a question mark on the Haryana government’s stand on the SYL canal, he further  added to his statement.

While openly denouncing the BJP led state government he said that the BJP is casual in its approach towards the controversial  SYL canal  Abhay Chautala further said it was shocking that the government had not made adequate efforts for the construction of the canal, despite the supreme court verdict in favour of Haryana.
