Jalandhar: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said on Monday that if voted to power in Punjab after the 2017 assembly elections, their government would get fake encounters and extra-judicial killings investigated and book guilty police officers.
“We have already demanded from Parkash Singh Badal government that a inquiry be launched into the fresh disclosures by former police inspector Gurmit Singh Pinky, but it has responded with a stoic silence. When AAP comes into power, we will get the cases of fake encounters and extra-judicial killings thoroughly investigated and guilty officials will be prosecuted,” said state AAP convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur, who was in Jalandhar to hold a meeting with local office-bearers and volunteers for preparation for Maghi conference of the party.
He was flanked by AAP legal cell incharge Himmat Singh Shergill. Questioning the silence of SAD-controlled Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee on the issue, Chhotepur said that their leaders shoot off letters to foreign countries or issue statements when something happen to Sikhs abroad, but they were maintaining complete silence when such serious allegations about fake encounters surfaced here. “They should explain their silence on the issue,” he said, adding that their party was against killing of innocents irrespective who were responsible for these.
It may be mentioned here that Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh had also announced that if his party came to power it would get the allegations of fake encounters investigated. He had particularly named former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini.
