Amritsar: As per media reports a 55-year-old woman was killed at her residence at Veroke village in Amritsar district early Sunday (Sept. 11). Police said Balwinder Kaur was mentally challenged and was facing a case related to Beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib.

As per a news reported by the Indian Express (IE) Balwinder Kaur’s husband Labh Singh, who was sleeping by her side, has claimed that he was heavily drunk and did not know of the attack. He is being interrogated.

A case of desecration was registered against Balwinder Kaur on November 10 last year on charges of attempting disrespect to the Guru Granth Sahib when she had entered the village gurdwara in her shoes.

Police are investigating if the murder is related to the case, which is pending trial.

According to police, Balwinder Kaur was sleeping when three unidentified persons allegedly entered her house and attacked her with sharp weapons. The post-mortem examination has revealed that she sustained grievous injuries and that she died of excessive bleeding.

Notably, in July, a 47-year-old woman, also named Balwinder Kaur, facing desecration charges, was shot dead by two persons in Ludhiana.
