World Sikh Organization to host annual human rights events in June

Ottawa, Canada (May 29, 2013): It is learnt that the World Sikh Organization of Canada will be hosting human rights events across Canada in the month of June, including their annual Parliamentary Dinner in Ottawa on Monday June 3rd in Ottawa. This year’s keynote speaker will be leading Punjab human rights activist Rajvinder S. Bains.

“Mr. Bains is a human rights activist and lawyer who has practiced in Punjab since 1985, pursuing independent practice at the High Court of Punjab and Haryana at Chandigarh since May 1986. Mr. Bains has presented several cases before the Punjab Human Rights Commission (PHRC), including Paramjit Kaur Khalra, the wife of disappeared human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, in the trial of the police officers accused of Khalra’s disappearance and murder”, reads a release by WSO-Canada.

Advocate Bains’s talk is entitled “learning from the past, focusing on the future.”

In addition to the annual Parliamentary Dinner, events are also scheduled for Vancouver, Toronto, Edmonton and Calgary. WSO expects to host several MPs and members of human rights and civil society groups.

Again this year, at the Toronto and Ottawa events, the Sikh Heritage Museum of Canada will be presenting a fascinating exhibition highlighting early Canadian Sikh history and the history of Sri Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple.
