Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) has slammed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over the Satluj Yamuna Link Canal issue. Punjab’s ruling party alleged that the AAP had proved its “treacherous nature” by withdrawing even the second supposedly neutral affidavit it submitted to the Supreme Court after withdrawing the first blatantly pro-Haryana affidavit on the SYL canal issue.
In a statement issued from Chandigarh on May 03, SAD spokesman Dr Daljit Cheema said the recent withdrawal of the second affidavit proved that AAP and its Convenor Arvind Kejriwal had no seriousness towards Punjab or its farmers. “
If one is to see the present trend the day is not far when the AAP government in Delhi will file a third, fourth of even a fifth affidavit as per what suits the government on that particular date”.
Dr Cheema said the sequence of events under which the second affidavit was withdrawn had also exposed the Delhi government and proved that Arvind Kejriwal had lied to Punjabis by claiming that the Delhi government counsel had filed the first pro- Haryana affidavit without consulting the government.
“The AAP government caved in immediately when the counsel Suresh Tripathy challenged this lie in the Supreme court”, he added.
Terming this behaviour as making a mockery of both politics as well as the judicial system, the Badal Dal asked Arvind Kejriwal to spell out his stand on the SYL canal. “Your first affidavit supported Haryana by saying the SYL should be constructed. Your second affidavit tried to confuse the issue by stating you only wanted your share of water and that it was up to Punjab and Haryana to decide how it lands in your State Delhi. You termed this affidavit as neutral even though everyone knows if you are to get water as per the 1976 reference as demanded by you it can be only through the medium of the SYL canal”, said Cheema.
