Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s state convenor Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi today appealed to Election Commission of India to check alleged continues violations of model code of election by Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) candidates and district officials taking it leniently.
Gurpreet Ghuggi in a statement said that every time it was not possible to file complaints of code violation but the district election officers has the powers to take suomoto notice of violations reported by media. He said that Gulzar Singh Ranike SAD candidate from Attari had held an election meeting in Gurdwara at Jhitte ke village without taking permission from election authorities.
AAP leader said that as per a report in the media the Assistant Election Officer of Attari assembly was not even aware of any such rally of SAD (Badal). Waraich said that SAD workers were served tea and Jalebis in the Gurdawara. The newspaper that carried the report has claimed that they have video recording to Ranike addressing election meeting in the Gurdwara. The Badal Dal workers also violated sanctity of religious place by entering with shoes and without covering their heads, he added.
Gurpreet Ghuggi further alleged that Badal Dal and Congress party have hatched a conspiracy to defame AAP and workers of these two parties were found distributing liquor and money in Kharar in vehicles bearing AAP flags. A complaint in this regard has been made to EC by AAP candidate Kanwar Sandhu, he added.
He further alleged that at some places posters of AAP were torn by SAD workers. He said that Police was going soft on such incidents.
Waraich also appealed the EC to investigate the fake letter posted on social media in the name of Sanjay Singh, national leader of party. He said that AAP has full faith in EC authorities and satisfied over arrangements made for a free and fair poll. Unfortunately, SAD.BJP and Congress are trying to disturb peaceful atmosphere.
