Brandishing Revolvers and other weapons, RSS activists march in Jaitu town of Faridkot

Faridkot, Punjab: After reports of march by armed RSS activists in Barnala city of Punjab, similar reports are coming from some other places as well. As per information available with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), the RSS activists marched through various parts of Jaitu town of Faridkot district while holding revolvers and other weapons in their hands.

RSS activists dressed with white shirts, khaki knickers and black topis held a procession in Jaitu on October 05 brandishing fire weapons and lathis, in Jaitu town of Faridkot and the police turning a blind eye to it.

But local RSS leaders maintain that “shastra puja” (worship of arms) during Dasehra festivities and “path-sanchalan” (street march) have been “traditional practices”.

Prof Sadhu Singh, Aam Aadmi Party Member of Parliament from Faridkot, claimed that firearms had been used for “shastra puja” for the first time in Punjab.

Also, the organizers did not have the permission of the district administration for brandishing weapons, he said.

Sukhdev Singh Brar, Deputy Superintendent of police (DSP), Jaitu, admitted that the RSS had not sought permission for displaying the firearms.

“However, as there was no threat to peace and the weapons were used for a religious ceremony only, we did not initiate any action against the organisers,” he explained.

Congress leader Kushaldeep Dhillon said the RSS had become more assertive in Punjab ever since the Modi government had taken over the reins at the Centre. He said the Akali Dal seemed helpless in checking its activities.
