Patna: As per the media reports Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has resigned from his post here on Wednesday. The move came amid Nitish Kumar facing immense pressure both from within his party Janata Dal (United) circle and from the opposition BJP to sack Tejaswi Yadav son of Rastraiya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Parsad Yadav and deputy chief minister of the state of Bihar on the charges of corruption in land transfer case being faced by him. The case lead to a tense stand off between him and his ally RJD.
He submitted his resignation with Governor Kesari Nath Tripathi at Raj Bhawan. Governor Tripathi who was scheduled to fly to Kolkata Wednesday afternoon had also postponed his travel. The West Bengal Governor is currently holding additional charge of Bihar.
The meeting is seen by many as manifestation of the statement made by RJD chief Lalu Yadav in which he outrightly ruled out any possibility pertaining to the resignation of Tejaswi Yadav from the post of deputy CM, and further maintained that all is well in the Bihar Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance).
While addressing the media persons in a press conference Lalu Yadav accused the media of “inventing” cracks in the RJD-JD(U)-Congress Grand Alliance.
“We made the alliance and accepted him (Nitish Kumar) as the Chief Minister. We have no problem with that. But if he decides not to carry on with this responsibility, then it is his choice,” Lalu Yadav reportedly said.
“It is the media which is trying to create a rift. I am in touch with him (Nitish). In fact, I talked to him last night as well,” he adds.
Minutes later, Tejashwi echoed his father’s statements. “This is a conspiracy not just against me and the party, but against the people of Bihar. The Mahagathbandhan continues to be strong. The people will answer the BJP,” reads the statement of Deputy CM published on the official website of News18.
“The BJP is trying to destabilise governments in non-BJP states. The Mahagathbandhan is strong and will continue to be so,” he said. Rejecting demands for his resignation, Tejashwi indirectly questioned Nitish’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption. “When the Grand Alliance was formed, then too there were cases against my father. But such cases are politically motivated,” he further added to his statement.
