Chandigarh: Punjab Congress chief Capt. Amarinder, who had cancelled his Canada visit fearing legal trouble, will now address Canadian supporters of the Congress party via Skype. As per media report the Congress in Punjab has decided to go ahead with its prescheduled programmes in Canada, which were to be addressed by PCC president Amarinder Singh. The Congress says Capt. Amarinder will address some of these programmes, slated to be held in different cities, including Toronto and Vancouver, through Skype.
“The party has also hired a battery of lawyers here to legally fight the complaint filed by Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) against Amarinder. We are confident that the complaint will be dismissed,” Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjit said.
Rana Gurjit, who was in charge for the programmes in Canada, said all the programmes will go on according to the schedule and Amarinder will address through Skype.
The Congress party may also organise a function in the US near the Canadian border so that people can meet Amarinder personally.
Notably, the Canadian government had earlier barred Capt. Amarinder from holding election oriented rallies in Canada after which Capt. Amarinder had announced to hold private gatherings in Canada. But when human rights group, Sikhs for Justice, and some victims of torture moved a complaint against Capt. Amarinder in a Canadian court, he announced to drop his plans to visit Canada.
