Damage control: Will review property tax, says Parkash Singh Badal

Moga/Kapurthla (June 03, 2014): Punjab’s ruling party Shiromani Akali Dal Badal (SAD-Badal) seems to be making efforts to win back the belief of people of the state after its low performance in parliamentary elections.

Days after it started campaign against drug abuse in Punjab with the help of Punjab police and then its deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and his wife Harsimrat Kaur Badal raised Sikh issues, Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has stated that the ruling would review property tax.

The property tax was imposed in the urban areas of Punjab on the property of the people, who are owner of this property. The state government had excused that the union government had “forced” the state to impose the same on the pretext of providing more grants for development.

The Badal Dal superemo, on the sidelines of death anniversary of a Dera head at Begowal village of Kapurthla district, said that the levying of property tax was a collective decision by the state cabinet but he would review it for the welfare of the people of the state.

Notably, the state ruling party faced much loss in urban areas of the state and the Aam Aadmi Party gained much in such areas.
