Jalandhar: Sikh Siyasat editor Parmjeet Singh today addressed a press conference to present evidence of PTC Punjabi doing beadbi of Gurbani by claiming that Gurbani Kirtan and Hukumnama Sahib from Darbar Sahib was PTC’s “intellectual property”.
Written Statement Released During the Press Conference:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫਤਿਹ॥
‘G Next Media Private Limited’ and ‘PTC Punjabi’ have asserted that they have sole, exclusive, absolute and full worldwide broadcasting rights of Gurbani kirtan as well as Mukhwak (hukamnama) from Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar. Such an exclusive hegemony over broadcast of Gurbani is neither justified nor tolerable.
PTC vide their notice dated January 10 , 2020 to Sikh Siyasat, which was routed through Facebook, has further asserted that Gurbani and Mukhwak are their ́intellectual property”.
Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the mind, such as inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names and images.
Whereas in case of Gurbani, Guru Sahib has not only made it apparent but have further emphasized ‘ਹਉ ਆਪਹੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਮੈ ਕਹਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਹੁਕਮਾਉ ਜੀਉ॥’ ‘ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਹੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ॥’ and has conveyed it to every living being that Gurbani is Nirankar’s own Hukam and Nirankar in Itself.
PTC’s assertion that Gurbani is their intellectual property amounts to another serious beadbi (sacrilege) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in a chain of numerous sacrilegious acts that have taken place in recent past.
Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandak Committee’s silence and indifference to this issue is similar to it’s earlier stance in face of sacrilege of Shri Guru Granth Sahib. It is criminal in nature, especially in the present case where SGPC is hand in glove with the perpetrators of the offence against Sikh ethos, tradition and ideology.
This issue is not limited to a lone notice to Sikh Siyasat and has wider implications. It’s time that Nanak Naam Leva Sangat across the world comes together, take up this issue and gives a befitting reply to those who claim Gurbani as their intellectual property. This blasphemous intent needs to be nipped here and now.
We call upon all social media and traditional media fraternity to unite and bring such hegemonic forces, which are obstacles to free flow of message of Gurbani to the world, to task. Let’s all share Gurbani and hukamnama on our social media accounts to make it easily and freely accessible to humanity across the globe .
To discuss various aspects of the issue at hand and form a common platform to ensure that an appropriate action is taken against the offenders we invite concerned and well meaning Sikhs to join us at a meeting on 17th January 2020 at Shri Guru Singh Sabha, Sector 28, Chandigarh.

EVIDENCE of PTC’s CLAIM THAT GURBANI WAS ITS INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY:
