New Delhi: Seen in accordance to the change of tactic from an aggressive approach into more  linear  and gradual one by the Indian state, its Prime Minister Narindera Modi has decided to meet chief ministers of Punjab and Haryana on the pretext of rooting out alleged differences between the states over the construction of controversial Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal, and further accelerate the process of draining out Punjab of its natural resource.

As reported by the media India’s attorney general K K Venugopal said he was not told about such a meeting and that it was good if it was taking place. “I was not informed by the water resources secretary about any such meeting, but now my friend here says it is happening. If so, it is good.’’

Earlier this year the Supreme Court of India (SCI) issued  an ambiguous decree which stated that canal should be build first whereas the flow of water in the river can calculated later on, this was dubbed by many as placing cart before the horse.

Apparently, with change in  its strategy the SCI gave two more months to enable the Centre to negotiate with the states for its earlier decree so that the loot of Punjab’s water resources can be facilitated with minimum resistance possible.

Furthermore, the SCI while venting out its frustration reprimanded Punjab for not constructing the canal passing through its territory after Venugopal pointed out that the work on the project in Haryana had been completed.

“If Haryana has done its part as per the decree, why should Punjab not do?’’ Justice Dipak Mishra asked. The court clarified that the extended time did not grant Punjab liberty for procrastination, but was meant to arrive at an amicable settlement, notes Indian Express (IE).
