Tarn Taran: Punjab’s former DGP (Prisons) Shashi Kant has said that human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra was killed in cold-blooded murder by the Punjab police. He was addressing a political conference organised by the Punjab Lok Leher Party (PLP), a political outfit formed by Dr Gurdrshan Singh Dhillon, Gurtej Singh, former IAS, besides Shashi Kant and others.

“Jaswant Singh Khalra was murdered in 1995 in cool blood by the Punjab police.” said the former DGP.

Notably Jaswant Singh Khalra was abducted by the Punjab police in September 1995 and was killed later. Khalra had exposed mass legal human rights abuses in Punjab by Indian security forces, where security forces used to kill Sikh civilians under enforced disappearance and cremate them as “unidentified” or “unclaimed” dead bodies.
Taking up issue of rampant drugs abuse in Punajb, he said he had been raising his voice against the rampant drug abuse in Punjab and written to the government against the politicians involved in illegal drug trade in 2007.
