Amritsar, Punjab (January 28, 2014): It is learnt that five Sikh Jathedars have sought CD of the clash between two factions at Takht Patna Sahib. In their meeting held at Akal Takht secretariat at Amritsar on January 27, Giani Gurbachan Singh and other Singh Sahibs decided to see the video recording of the clash before making any decision in this regard.
It may be recalled that a clash had taken place between two groups owing allegiance to Patna Sahib Jathedar Giani Iqbal Singh and newly appointed additional head granthi Gaini Partap Singh on January 07 during the Parkash Gurpurb Samagams held to mark Gurpurb of Guru Gobind Singh.
A five-member committee constituted by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which was sent on a fact-finding mission to Patna Sahib, had struck truce between the warring factions and had advised them to maintain status quo besides submitting their report to the Akal Takht.
Akal Takht Jathedar Gurbachan Singh reportedly told Times of India (TOI) that the Sikh Jathedars had sought the CD of the incident and they would also take statements of Giani Jagtar Singh, the head ‘granthi’ of Darbar Sahib, and ‘mukh ardasiya’ Bhai Kulwinder Singh, who were present during the function. He said it wouldn’t be appropriate to take any decision as long as the case was pending with the police.
According to TOI: [r]eacting to the formation of a four-member committee by the Damdami Taksal to investigate the Patna Sahib incident, Gurbachan Singh said, “As the SGPC has sent its team, there was no need of any other committee to probe the matter.”
