Chandigarh: As per information the Thailand authorities have extradited Jagtar Singh Tara to India after the process was approved by Thailand’s Supreme Court. Tara is expected to arrive in India today and it is expected that Punjab police will take his custody on his arrival at Delhi.
Meanwhile, media reports are saying that Jagtar Singh Tara is a life term convict in Punjab CM Beant Singh’s assassination case. However an investigation by Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) revealed that Jagtar Singh Tara was declared “proclaimed offender” (P.O.) in Beant Singh assassination case; which means that Tara was not tired in this case and no judgement was passed against him.
Speaking to the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) over phone, Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur said “according to decision/ judgement of trial court, Jagtar Singh Tara was a declared a proclaimed offender (P.O.) in Beant Singh assassination case.”
“On his arrival to India the trial court may resume trial against Jagtar Singh Tara in Beant Singh assassination case”, he added.
It may be recalled that Punjab CM Beant Singh had unleashed region of state-terror on civilian Sikh population after assuming office in 1992. The period of 1992-95 was marred by mass level atrocities on the civilian Sikh population when thousands were subjected to enforced disappearances, killed in fake/ staged encounters and were cremated as “unclaimed dead bodies”.
CM Beant Singh had put the existence of the Sikhs, especially the youth sections, under threat. He was assassinated out of existential concerns. Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara and Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana were granted death sentences in this case. Bhai Hawara’s death sentence was turned in to imprisonment for life (till death) by Punjab and Haryana High Court, while Balwant Singh Rajoana is still facing death sentence. On the other hand CBI has appealed to the Supreme Court of India to restore death sentence against Jagtar Singh Hawara.
