Ludhiana/Punjab (November 07, 2012): As the Barack Hussein Obama has been elected as President of the United States for the second time, many Sikhs circles have hailed his victory and sent Obama congratulatory messages.
It is learnt that American Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (ASGPC) and All India Sikh Students Federation have sent the congratulatory messages to US President.
“He is the one who understands concerns of the Sikhs and minorities in US,” Dr. Pritpal Singh, coordinator of ASGPC is reported to told Times of India (TOI) while adding that “Sikhs in US were extremely happy over Obama’s victory”.
“He is friend of the Sikhs,” said ASGPC President J. S. Hothi. “Barak Obama was always receptive to Sikhs’ demands and understood their concerns. When two months back the unfortunate incident of shoot-out at Oak Creek Gurdwara in Wisconsin happened, Obama rose above politics and felt concerned, taking appreciable steps to garner sense of safety and security amongst community members,” he said, according to TOI news report.
Similarly, Karnail Singh Peermohammad informed Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) that he has sent a letter to President Obama congratulating him for the remarkable victory in Presidential elections. Peermohammad said Obama administration had showed great concern and solidarity with the Sikhs after Wisconsin Gurudwara terror strike and appealed to the Sikhs in US to “jointly celebrate” Obama’s victory.
