Sikh Political Prisoners’ issue: RTI reply by India’s Home Ministry put CM Badal’s “efforts” under question

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s claim about raising the issue of Sikh Political Prisoners with India’s Home ministry have come under question. A RTI by a journalist named Baljinder Kotbhara has revealed that CM Badal never wrote any letter to India’s Home Ministry. CM Badal had been maintaining that he, in 2012, had raised the issue of release of Sikh political prisoners languished in jails that have served over their sentenced terms, with the Home ministery of India.

In a reply to the RTI query the Home Ministry of India says: “It is stated that as per the records of the nodal points where letters are received in respect of this Ministry, the above referred letter was not received in their office. Therefore, it would not be possible for this Ministry to furnish any information with the reference to your application.”

VK Rajan the secretary of the Ministry issued the signed letter on February 15, 2015.

However, since the letter was never received by the Home Ministry it can be said the CM played politics over the issue.
