New Delhi: Sikh Genocide 1984 convicts Sajjan Kumar, Mahinder Yadav and Krishan Khokhar surrendered before a Delhi court today. They are convicted for killings of Sikhs during November 1984 Sikh genocide in Delhi. Notably, a trial court had convicted Mahinder Yadav, Krishan Khokhar and three others in 2013 in a related to killings of Sikhs but Sajjan Kumar was acquitted by the trial court. Recently, the Delhi High Court reversed the trial court’s decision to acquit Sajjan Kumar while upholding conviction of five others.
The Delhi High court upheld the imprisonment for life for Mahinder Yadav, Krishan Khokhar, Balwan Khokhar, retired naval officer Captain Bhagmal and Girdhari Lal and awarded imprisonment for life to Sajjan Kumar.
The court had allowed Sajjan Kumar, who was not arrested in this case, and Mahinder Yadav and Krishan Khokhar, who were out on bail to surrender before 31 December to go to jail to sever their sentence.
The convicts had tried to get relief but their petitions are likely to be heard in coming days after the courts would resume working after vacations. Therefore today, on the last allowed day, they surrendered.
