Sikh Identity Petition: Supreme Court of India issue notice to Law Ministry

New Delhi, India (July 05, 2013): It is learnt that the Supreme Court of India has told the Government of India (GOI) to file a reply on a petition seeking removal of an explanation to a provision in Indian Constitution that treats “Sikhs”, “Jains” and “Buddhists” as “Hindus” for all legal purposes.

Sikhs for Justice raises reward to $20K for serving US Courts summons on Punjab CM Badal

New York, United States (July 05, 2013): A US based Rights Group “Sikhs For Justice” (SFJ) has raised the reward from $10,000 to $20,000 for successful service of US court summons on visiting Punjab CM Parkash Badal. The reward for serving Badal has been raised due to the aura of secrecy around time and place of Badal’s arrival, schedule of meetings and duration of his stay in the US. CM Badal is expected to attend a marriage ceremony in Milwaukee on July 06.

Amritsar, Punjab (June 04, 2013): After decades of denial by the Punjab Police that its officers unlawfully killed innocent Sikhs in fake encounters, Sub-Inspector (SI) Surjit Singh has made a public statement describing the atrocities committed by him and security forces in the early 1990s. Surjit Singh admitted that then Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Paramjit Singh Gill of Amritsar district ordered him to kill 83 men in fake encounters.

Chandigarh, Punjab (July 04, 2013): A Punjabi rapper-cum-singer, Zo Zo Honey Singh, who had been at the horns of controversy due to allegations of vulgar singing, was able to evade the kicks this time. Honey Singh, who was booked by Punjab police at the directions of Punjab and Haryana High Court earlier this year, reportedly claimed in the High Court on July 03, 2013 that he did not sing the controversial vulgar song - “Main Hun Balatkari” (I am a rapist).

Ishrat Jahan was killed by Gurjrat Police & IB in fake encounter: CBI

Gujrat, India (July 04, 2013): A 19-year-old girl named Ishrat Jahan was killed along with three others (all men) by Gujarat Police in 2004. The police had claimed that all were connected to 'terrorist activities' and were killed in an encounter. But now the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has concluded that Ishrat Jahan was not connected to any terrorist activities, and further that she was killed in a fake/staged encounter. CBI reportedly filed a charge-sheet in this matter on July 03, 2013.

Delhi High Court issues notice to CBI and compliment on Jagdish Tytler’s plea

New Delhi, India (July 04, 2013): It is learnt that on July 03, 2013 the Delhi High Court denied to issue stay order against a Delhi's lower court's order directing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to reopen investigation against Congress party leader Jagdish Tytler in a November 1984 Sikh massacre related case. But the High Court has reportedly issued notice to CBI and the complainant to file on a plea moved by Jagdish Tytler against the orders of lower court.

Sub-Inspector Surjit Singh has admitted before media that he killed 83 innocent Sikhs during early-1990s in Punjab. Surjit Singh told media persons that he went on Punjab police training in 1989 and was deployed as a constable in 1990 after his training.
