Bathinda, Punjab (February 20, 2013): As per information available with Sikh Siyasat News the Bathinda city and surrounding areas in Punjab have been turned into police camp in wake of February 22, 2013 court appearance of Dera Sauda Sirsa head Gurmeet Ram Rahim.
Dera head is expected to appear in the court on the summons issued by a local court in a case of blasphemy against the Dera head.
As per information heavy police force is deployed in Bathinda and the city has been virtually turned into a police camp.
According to information shared by a Journalist named Gursewak Singh Dhaula on social networking site Facebook, all the schools in Bathinda shall remain closed on February 22, 2013 in wake of controversial sect head’s court appearance.
The case against Dera head dates back to 2007 but his expected court appearance on February 22 would be his first court appearance in this case, and his first entry in Punjab since 2007.
The dera head is also facing charges of murder, sexual abuse and rape in different courts.
It is notable that in May 2007 Gurmeet Ram Rahim had attempted to personify himself as tenth Sikh Guru – Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, a practise that is not permitted in Sikh religion. He had also attempted to copy the sacred Sikh ceremony of “Amrit” and thereby attempted to derogate the Sikh history and tradition.
These notorious activities had triggered mass unrest in Punjab and adjoining states, where there is concentrated population of Sikhs. The sentiments of world wide Sikh community were outrages by these activities of the dera head.
S. Rajinder Singh Sidhu, a local resident had moved a complaint against dera head in May 2007 but there was not much progress during previous years.
It is notable that Dera head is enjoying patronage of Indian state and state agencies and he is escorted with Z Plus security cover. The Punjab police had attempted to seek closure of this matter from the court but due to firm stand taken by Bhai Rajinder Singh and Akali Dal Panch Pardhani the court had refused to close the matter.
There are reports that the Punjab police has withdrawn the security cover of S. Rajinder Singh Sidhu who is prime complainant against the dera head.
