Hisar/ Gurdaspur (February 26, 2014): As per certain media reports an Indian army jawan Sepoy Harmeet Singh, 29, posted at Hisar cantonment was sent to judicial custody on February 25 following his arrest last week for allegedly transporting illegal weapons to Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) militants. He was posted in the 73 Armoured unit.
It is learnt that the Punjab police had arrested him on February 20 for his alleged links with the so-called Khalistan Liberation Formce (KLF) militants.
As per police story it had busted a KLF module last September by making arrest of some Sikh youth that had several local Shiv Sena leaders, including Yograj Sharma, Surinder Billa and Harvinder Soni, on its target list.
Gurdaspur SSP Raj Jit Singh reportedly told a reporter of Times of India (TOI) that: “[i]t came out during the investigations that Harmeet had transported a 9mm semi-automatic pistol from Khokhar to Sohal area of Gurdaspur in September. He had kept the weapon for 15 days before handing it over his brother Gurpreet, who is an active member of the KLF”.
Police said they had to send several letters to the army headquarters and Harmeet Singh’s commandant to seek his arrest. They confirmed the jawan’s name had been included in the old FIR filed in the Gurdaspur case.
It is notable that recently registered police cases against the Sikh youth were being viewed with suspicion as certain Sikh bodies had charged the police for falsely framing young Sikhs under UAPA and other notorious laws.
