New Delhi (June 17, 2014): E-rikshaws run on electric battery are centre of politics in national capital for a couple of days. As Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal tried to encash vote bank of E-rikshaws by meeting Lieutenant Governor Najib Jung on Monday to get relaxation for e-rikshaws to save them from ongoing challans in New Delhi, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari adressing a rally of e-rickshaw owners and drivers at Ramlila Maidan in Dlehi today announced that e-rickshaws with motor power till 650W would now be considered as non-motorised vehicles.
The Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways (MoRTH) had rendered e-rickshaws illegal via a notification issued on April 24. The Transport department had started impounding e-rickshaws across the city.
Gadkari also said that Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has to regulise e-rickshaws by registering them with a fee of just Rs. 100 and form a policy for their smooth operations.
Following Gadkari’s bid to highjack the issue of AAP, Aam Aadmi Party reportedly posted on its website News Tag that over 2 lakh e-rikshaw operators would continue their support to AAP.
