No talk with Naxals/ Maoists; Special funds for special force to “tackle” the Naxal movement: Rajnath Singh

New Delhi, India (June 30, 2014): According to information Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh on recently spelled out the anti-Maoist policy of the Narendra Modi government, saying there will be no talks with the left-wing ultras.

According to media reports [a]fter meeting Chief Secretaries and DGPs of 10 Naxal-infested states here, Singh said that the government will adopt a balanced approach to resolve the Maoist problem.

He further announced central funding for a special force to tackle the Naxal movement.

Greyhound-like forces will be deployed in states like Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Odisha, the minister informed.

The meeting was reportedly attended by Chief Secretaries and DGPs of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

There was wide criticism of last UPA (II) government when it had attempted to deploy army in areas under Naxalite-Maoist struggle. Many sections of Indian society and human rights bodies was opposed to using Army to crush the naxalite struggle.
