Amitabh Bachhan, who instigated violence against Sikhs in ’84, says India gave mankind a vital weapon of “non-violence”

Mumbai/ New Delhi (August 15, 2014): Indian actor Amitabh Bachhan said that the India gave mankind a vital weapon of ahimsa or non-violence. He said so while extending greetings to his fans on India’s Independence day. His statement is being ‘celebrated’ by various media sections.

However, there is another aspect which brings Amitabh Bachhan’s talks about non-violence under questions. Survivors of Sikh Genocide of 1984 have repeatedly accused Amitabh Bachhan for instigating genocidal violence against the Sikhs.

Amitabh Bachhan, who was close to Rajiv Gandhi, had reportedly raised slogans like “blood for blood” on government owned Doordarshan Television after assassination of then Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi on 31 October 1984.

Thousands of Sikhs were massacred in various episodes of genocidal violence carried throughout India during first week of November 1984.

It is pertinent to note that Bibi Jagdish Kaur, one of the survivors of Sikh genocide 1984 openly accused Amitabh Bachhan for instigating violence against the Sikhs.

“I wonder why no one in India lodged case against Amitabh Bachchan for provoking killing of Sikhs,” Jagdish Kaur reportedly told Times of India in 2011.

Reminiscing the terrible sad memories of violance against the Sikhs, Jagdish Kaur said, “I watched live relay on Doordarshan and saw Amitabh Bachchan raising his arm and shouting the slogan, ‘khun ka badla khun sae laengae’ (Blood for blood) two times.”
