“The Prime Minister also speaks Hindi when he meets foreign dignitaries,” he said amidst applause at a function organised at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Indian President Pranab Mukherjee was present at the function.

Rajnath Singh claimed that Hindi was most used language across the country. He further claimed that Hindi had wide popularity across India.

Rajnath Singh claimed that 55 per cent population of the country speaks Hindi, while 85 to 90 per cent people in the country understand Hindi even though it is not their mother tongue.

Indian Home Minister said Sanskrit is the mother of all Indian languages, while Hindi and other regional languages are sisters.

The issue of languages is of political significance in India where under the grab of “nation building” the process of “linguistic genocide” is being silently driven by the state apparatus. BJP is know for it’s Hindu, Hindi and Hindu-India ideology. The BJP government has come under severe attack from various political parties, mainly from southern parts of the country when it had announced to observer “Sanskrit” week.

On another occasion, the BJP government had to offer clarifications after opposition parties criticised it’s decision to impose Hindi in all government communications over social media.
