Seminar held on post-conflict reconciliation at National Law University Delhi

New Delhi, India: National Law University Delhi, in collaboration with Friedrich Naumann Foundation and Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation organized a one day seminar on Post Conflict Reconciliation on 27th September 2014.

The purpose of the seminar was to share experiences of and challenges faced during reconciliation efforts in conflict ridden societies, and evolve better methods of participation by the civil society in such efforts.

The seminar feature eminent international speakers and scholars engaged in the field of post conflict reconciliation.

Noted guests included Mr. Aleksandar Trifunovic, Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN), Dr. Ronald Meinardus, Regional Director South Asia, Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF), Ms. Asma Khan Lone (Writer, Jammu and Kashmir), Ms. Monisha Behl (Founder, North East Network), and Mr. Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad (President, All India Sikh Student Federation)

The seminar was intended to provide a platform for exchange of ideas and best practices in post conflict reconciliation.

Professor Dr. Srikrishna Deva Rao, Vice Chancellor, National Law University Odisha concluded this Seminar and Vote of thanks was given by Mr. Daniel Matthew, Assistant Professor of Law, National Law University Delhi.

Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad spoke about the conflict and other major Issues in Punjab, what was the reason behind conflict and what is the ground development on the issue till date. He said that real reconciliation is done when the basic issues behind conflict are dealt with in real and prudent manner.

The other speakers also shared their experiences of their respective countries and what is needed to be done for peace and justice and ultimately for the betterment of human kind.

Mr. Amit Singh Chadha senior advocate, Supreme Court of India and founder, center for dialogue and reconciliation gave the inaugural address. The concluding remarks were made by Dr. Ronald Meinardus Regional director south Asia, Friedrich Naumann Foundation.

Ms. Maria Schneider, Regional Project Manager South Asia, Friedrich Naumann Foundation and Mr. Daniel Mathew, Assistant Professor of Law, National University Delhi gave the vote of thanks.
