Ludhiana (January 28, 2010): As per a Times of India news report; a UK-based organization, United Khalsa Dal has claimed that alleged Babbar Khalsa militant Karanvir Singh, who had escaped from custody of Hoshiarpur Police in October last, has been arrested by the Punjab police from Nepal on January 21.
“In a statement, UK Dal general secretary Lovshinder Singh Dallewal said Karanvir was being tortured in police custody and police had not yet shown his arrest. Hoshiarpur SSP Rakesh Aggarwal said any such thing was not yet in his notice” reads the news.
Karanvir was arrested by Hoshiarpur Police reportedly from Bajwara area of the district in October last year. However, the police claimed that he escaped after breaking open a window of a bathroom of the police station where he was kept. Police had also claimed that a cache of arms and ammunition was recovered on the basis of the information provided by him.
Various human rights’ reports and numerous previous incidents reveal that it is a general practice adopted by the Punjab police to keep arrested persons in illegal custody for several days.
