Bapu Surat Singh’s hunger strike crosses 38th day; No significant progress on Sikh political prisoners’ case

Ludhiana, Punjab: An elderly Akali activist Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa (82) is on continuous hunger strike since January 16. He is demanding release of Sikh political prisoners, jailed in India, who have completed minimum mandatory terms of their sentences.

A press release sent to the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) on behalf of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa says that the day (on Feb. 22) was started with ‘Jaap’ of Gurbani by a Sikh child named Maha Singh.

It is notable that Bapu Surat Singh is being kept that Civil Hospital Ludhiana under observation by the police, though he is not taking any medical aid or medicine.

“On 38th day of hunger strike, Bapu Surat Singh has turned physically weak but he remains in Chardikala”, reads the press release.

Bapu Surat Singh thanks Sikh sangats for their continuous support. He said that Sikhs should focus on the issue related to the Sikh political prisoners instead of ‘worrying’ about his health.
