New Delhi/ Mumbai: According to reports in Indian Media, India may execute a death sentence convict on 30 July. A DD News report says that death warrant for hanging of Yakub Memon were recently issued by Indian authorities.
Yakub Menon was convicted in 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blast case. His appeal against death sentence was dismissed by Supreme Court of India on April 21 this year. His curative petition is likely to be heard by the SCI on 21st July. Media reports say that if the SCI rejects his petition, he will be executed on July 30.
It may be recalled that his constitutional review petition was turned down last year by President of India.
Yakub Memon was sentenced to death by a designated TADA court in 2007 for criminal conspiracy in 1993 Bombay serial bomb blast case.
Last hanging that took place in India was that of a Afzal Guru. He was secretly hanged on February 9, 2013 at Delhi’s Tihar Jail.
