Chandigarh (May 29, 2011): Smt. Upkar Kaur and Sarabjit Kaur, mother and wife of Prof Devinderpal Singh Bhullar, whose consitutional review petition was recently rejected by the President, met him at Awaas, a medical centre, on Saturday.
They are stated to have told their kin after the meeting that he is not as much concerned about his own fate as he is depressed by the fact that he could not get justice for his father, uncle and a friend, who were allegedly picked up by the police and ‘eliminated’ during their enforced disappearance.
Bhullar has remained admitted in the centre for the last four months for treatment of “depression and high-risk suicidal tendencies”, his friend Harwinder Singh Bindi told TOI from Delhi.
“Bhullar told his mother that he was in high spirits and did not think his life or death would make any difference to anyone. He is, however, depressed that he could not get justice for his father Balwant Singh, uncle Manjit Singh Sohi and friend Balwinder Singh Multani, who were picked up by the then Chandigarh police chief, Sumedh Singh Saini , who is currently Vigilance head of Punjab police, tortured and killed, to get back at Bhullar,” he said.
“His mother said this is the third time her son’s life hangs in balance, but she has faith he will not be harmed,” he added.
Surinder Singh Kishanpura, Organizational Secretary of Shiromani Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) said panthic organizations would be meeting in Ludhiana on May 30 to discuss the case and decide on future course of action.
