New York, USA: Challenging Capt Amarinder’s accusation against “Sikhs for Justice” (SFJ) playing into the hands of the Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Sikh human rights group announced to file a “Defamation” case against former Chief Minister in the Federal Court of California where he is expected to address gatherings.
California’s defamation law provides that an organization can bring a case against an individual as long as statements are reasonably understood to refer to the organization in question and in this case Capt. Amarinder openly named and falsely accused “SFJ” which has been widely published in print and electronic media.
“SFJ is an independent human rights advocacy group with mission to promote Sikhs right to self determination and is seeking referendum in the State of Punjab”, stated attorney Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, legal advisor to SFJ.
“Just because SFJ is pursuing legal course against Capt Amarinder based on credible evidence under the laws of Canada, former Chief Minister instead of coming to Canada and face the court is diverting the attention from his crimes against the Sikh community”, added attorney Pannun.
Pannun, who is camping in Canada to coordinate private prosecution of Capt Amarinder.
stated “While Amarinder will be in California canvassing for Congress, he will hear from SFJ loud and clear”.
In response to SFJ’s filing of “Torture” case in Canada which forced Capt Amarinder to cancel his Toronto and Vancouver visit, former Chief Minister on April 23 stated, SFJ is “playing into the hands of the anti-India forces like the ISI to embarrass India and project as if rights violations was the norm of the day in the country (India) like some dictatorships in different parts of the world”. He added, “The government of India, rising above political considerations, must take up the matter with the Canadian government at the highest level.”
