SGPC withdraws restrictions of press coverage of Ghallughara June 1984 samagam

June 5, 2016 | By

Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has removed restrictions that were ‘proposed’ by SGPC chief Harcharan Singh yesterday. In another letter written to Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar, Harcharan Singh today claimed that Sikh Sangat had raised objections regarding media coverage highlighting some specific incidents hurting Sikh feelings. He claimed that even in yesterday’s letter only videographers were restricted from covering 6 June’s event.

He also claimed that T.V. channels and other ‘agencies’ have assured that they would respect the sanctity of the Darbar Sahib complex, adding that in wake of such assurance all sort or restrictions on press coverage of 6 June’s event have been lifted.

Notably, in a letter to DC Amritsar yesterday, the SGPC chief secretary Harcharan Singh had requested the Deputy commission to direct the press through PRO (Amritsar) about restrictions on coverage of 6 June Ghallughara Samagam.
