SGPC to urge Centre for Recognising the Sikh contribution in India’s Freedom Struggle

Chandigarh/ Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhdandak Committee (SGPC) held a “Rashtri Seminar” at Randhawa Auditorium in Punjab Kala Bhawan, Chandigarh on topic: “Sikh Contribution to India’s Jung-E-Azaadi” [in context of Andeman-Nikobar (Kaale Paani)].

The SGPC issued a written press release this evening giving out details related to the seminar. As per the release, SGPC chief Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar announced to collect the history of ‘Sikh warriors’ who participated in India’s freedom struggle in order to highlight their contribution. He said that despite being a very small minority Sikhs made maximum contribution in India’s freedom struggle but their sacrifices were being ignored.

In tune with Indian nationalistic narrative towards the Sikh history, the SGPC chief further said that it was Guru Nanak Ji who first raised the voice against salivary of Mughals by calling Babur a jaabar (tyrant) where as Bhai Maharaj Singh laid foundation of struggle for freedom against the British.
