Chandigarh: Scholars have found that every genocide followed by denial and according to genocide scholar Gregory H. Stanton denial is a multi-layered and multi-form process which covers numerous attempts to deny the fact of genocide.
Where as the Indian state has been denying the fact of Sikh genocide 1984 for past three decades by offering various explanations and justifications and through mitigating propaganda, a minister in Capt. Amarinder Singh’s cabinet in Punjab has come up with a claim that the Congress party was not responsible for violence against the Sikhs in November 1984.
Punjab Cabinet Minister Rana Gurjit Singh has reportedly given clean chit to the Congress party for November 1984 genocidal violance against the Sikhs. Media reports have quoted the Congress party MLA from Kapurthala saying that the Congress was not responsible for the 1984 anti-Sikh massacres.
“If our party was in power at that time in Delhi, we cannot treat it as being responsible for the [violance],” he reportedly said.
His statement came in response to a recent announcement by the Indian Supreme Court to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the closure of 186 cases related to November 1984 Sikh carnage in Delhi after an earlier SCI appointed pointed that the cases were closed by the SIT (appointed by BJP government) without investigation.
