40 Years of Teeja Ghallughara: Samagam held, Book “Rajghat Te Hamla” Released at Kotbhara

Bathinda: Sikh sangat of Kotbhara village and Panth Sewak Bhai Hardeep Singh Mehraj organized a Gurmat Samagam on 25th May 2024 to commemorate the 4oth anniversary of Teeja Ghallughara, June 1984 attack on Sri Darbar Sahib, Akal Takht Sahib and more than 70 other Gurdwaras across Punjab and adjoining states.

This samagam was attended by Panth Sewak Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu and other Sikh personalities like Bhai Karamjit Singh Sunam, besides representatives of Sikh jathas and other Sikhs organizations.

The Gurmat Samagam began with recitation of Sukhmani Sahib, followed by the Gurmani Kirtan. The main speaker during this sangam was Bhai Malkeet Singh Bhawanigarh of Sikh Jatha Malwa. Bhai Malkeet Singh has authored a book titled “Vakh-Vakh Gurdwarian Te Hoye Fauji Hamlian Dee Gatha” (The untold story of Army attack on various Sikh Gurdwaras). Bhai Malkeet Singh has unearthed the fact that the Indian army attacked more than 70 Gurdwaras across Punjab and adjoining states during June 1984 Teeja Ghallughara. Bhai Malkeet Singh read out selective quotes of his book during his address to the Sangat.

This event also marked the release of a new book “Rajghat Te Hamla” penned by Baljinder Singh Kotbhara. This book tells the story of courageous act of Bhai Karamjit Singh Suman who had taken an attempt on life of the then Indian PM Rajiv Gandhi with an indigenous pistol (desi katta) after later justified by November 1984 genocide of Sikh across India by saying that “when a big tree falls, the earth shakes”. Rajiv Gandhi was referring to assassination of his mother and Indian PM Indira Gandhi who was gunned down by two Sikhs- Bhai Satwant Singh and Bhai Beant Singh at her residence on 31 October 1984, month after she ordered an army attack on Sikh Gurdwaras in June 1984.

Bhai Karamjit Singh Sunam, Panth Sewak Bhai Daljit Singh and Bhai Hardeep Singh Mehraj also addressed the gathering and paid tributes to Sikh Shaheeds of Ghallughara 1984.
