Chandigarh (September 23, 2013): It is learnt that Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, a Sikh political prisoner, was discharged from the PGI on late Sunday (September 22) evening. The doctors ruled out an angiography on him as all his medical reports were normal.
To rule out any angina (cardiac chest pain), thallium treadmill test was conducted to assess the functioning of Rajoana’s heart. Based on the test report, he was discharged from the hospital. A panel of doctors from the PGI had been constituted to document the reports and tests of Rajoana.
According to medical experts, thallium treadmill is done on those who have a history of high cholesterol, hypertension or diabetes. “His ECG, echocardiogram reports and thallium test reports were normal,” said one of the cardiologists.
Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana was admitted to the PGI on Saturday evening. “We have been repeatedly conducting ECGs and none of them has shown abnormal peaks. He is stable,” a doctor said.
He was referred to the PGI from Rajendra Medical College and Hospital in Patiala after he complained of chest pain.
According to sources, Rajoana did not complain of any further pains and had been resting.
“The patient has been discharged and a copy of his medical file has been handed over to Punjab police,” said PGI spokesperson Manju Wadwalkar.
